Marc L. Messner, LMSW, MEd
Hi, I'm Marc Messner
My approach to counseling stems from my beliefs that clients can navigate through the challenges of their lives by developing connections with others. Each client brings to the table their own unique experiences and expertise in their own life. As a counselor, I use an integrated therapeutic approach when working with clients. This means that I use various theories in session so that a unique intervention can be created.
As a counselor, my therapeutic style encompasses empathy, self-disclosure, compassion, and humor. I feel that we are all ever-evolving and learn how to adapt through growth. My goal is to provide a safe and calm sanctuary where you can feel comfortable sharing your innermost thoughts and feelings without the worry of being judged. I will work in collaboration with you to find ways to manage challenges that may arise and cause distress, all while allowing you to find empowerment in those actions. Marc has extensive experience in the field of substance use and works with all ages, including children, adolescents, adults, and couples. Marc has been a group facilitator in various settings including schools, workshops, and with incarcerated individuals.
I am a therapist who completed a dual degree program and achieved a Master of Social Work and a Master of Education in Human Sexuality Studies from Widener University. During that program, I also earned a Specialization Certificate in Social Work and Trauma Practice, which allows me to use a trauma-focused lens in working with clients. I am pursuing licensure as a clinical social worker (LCSW).
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I have recently moved back to the area from Texas. In my free time, I enjoy kayaking, the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. I love to travel and spend time with my “zoo” at home, which includes three rescue dogs and a cat.
