Sex Therapist, Relationship Therapist, Psychotherapist / Trainer

Hi, I'm Julie Setting

I believe that therapy is a powerful collaborative tool that can be utilized to navigate any number of obstacles and challenges we face throughout our lives. We spend our entire lives hearing the “shoulds” and “supposed tos” telling us what other people think we should be doing. But, I believe no one can know you better than you have the capacity to know yourself. I view my role as a therapist to be a supportive guide on my client’s self-determined journey of growth and change. As a Licenced Clinical Social Worker, I work to provide an individualized approach informed by Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness. I work to identify and take apart the “shoulds” of our lives and help my clients discard the stories that impede them on their journey toward an authentic life authoring their own story.

As a therapist, I recognize that therapy asks people to do hard work, feel challenging emotions, process difficult experiences, and accept painful truths. It is my goal to provide a safe environment where clients can embark on that courageous journey without fear of condemnation or shame. I deeply believe that a safe therapeutic space where a person feels safe to shed what no longer fits them and challenge themselves to push on growth edges to find or create what will fit them is essential to a strong community.

In my journey to becoming a therapist, I received a Master of Education in Human Sexuality from Widener University. I pursued this degree because I believe it is every human being’s inalienable right to explore, find meaning in, and be the author of their own sexual self. I believe that being a sexual being is no different than being a being who breathes. I am passionate about providing a therapeutic environment that embraces and supports queer, poly, kinky, and/or otherwise sexually marginalized individuals. I am fiercely supportive of bodily autonomy and believe it is each individual's personal journey to decide for themselves the value of sex and all it encompasses (sexual desires, pleasures, interests, identity, etc.) in their lives.

When not at work I love spending time with my partners, friends, and family. I am extremely involved in playing and running Tabletop Role Playing Games including but not limited to Dungeons & Dragons. I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, teaching myself how to do origami, strength training, playing all sorts of video games, and enjoying a peaceful relaxing time with my cat.
