Dr. Lisa Burroughs
Hi, I'm Lisa Burroughs
I am a Delaware licensed psychologist with 15 years’ experience treating adults in individual psychotherapy with a range of issues from mild to moderate stress related anxiety and depression to severe complex trauma. My area of specialty is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
I earned my doctoral degree and completed my internship while serving as an active-duty Army officer (while serving on active duty) and completed my 15 years of military service as Chief of Psychology at Fort Drum. (I then served 4 years as) I was the Chief of Psychology at the Wilmington VA Medical Center before entering private practice. My training and experience uniquely qualify me to treat military combat and non-combat trauma as well as military and non-military sexual trauma.
In my work with clients, I use a psychodynamic conceptualization, considering family history and relationships to understand a person’s internal world while applying cognitive behavioral interventions such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy to treat and manage specific symptoms in conjunction with mindfulness-based practices to establish healthy coping strategies and self-care habits.
I have a deeply held belief that every person possesses the power of self-healing and I see therapy as an opportunity to collaboratively guide individuals toward his or her own truth. It is my goal to empathetically and compassionately utilize a combination of approaches to think comprehensively about your unique challenges and to develop a specialized plan to best manage your symptoms and reduce your suffering.
